Vibrio vulnificus is a gram-negative bacterium that can cause serious wound infections, septicemia, and diarrhea [ 1-3 ]. It is the leading cause of shellfish-associated deaths in the United States. Symptoms of V. vulnificus infection vary from gastrointestinal illness to septicemia.
